2025 Youth Parliament Announced

Young people across New Zealand will have a unique opportunity to experience the political process and learn about government.

The eleventh Youth Parliament, announced by Minister for Youth Matt Doocey, will take place on July 1-2 at Parliament. Up to 123 young people aged 16-18 will be selected as Youth MPs, allowing them to advocate for their communities and debate issues they are passionate about. Additionally, up to 20 young people aged 16-24 will be chosen as Youth Press Gallery members, reporting on the activities of Youth MPs and learning about the role of the Press Gallery.

The two-day event is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for youth in New Zealand, where participants will engage with their communities and bring their perspectives directly to Parliament. Applications for all positions will open on February 3 and close on February 28, 2025. The Youth Parliament programme is organized by the Ministry of Youth Development (MYD) with support from the Office of the Clerk of the House of Representatives.

More information can be found on the MYD website.
